Obituary for Philip Kent Bevelacqua

BEVELACQUA, Philip Kent (1939-2020) cast off his earthly body and entered eternal victory in the early morning of July 8th, 2020 surrounded by family. Phil’s vibrant interests included sailing, boating, flying planes, photography, politics, education, shooting, and hunting; altogether with playing music for decades in the, “Good Time Band.” He was a man of countless talents – a “jack of all trades” – and yet, a true master of many! Phil was classically trained at Kendall College as an artist and designer, where he later taught. He worked as a contract designer for such firms as American Seating, Steelcase, Herman Miller, and Shaw Walker. Everyone knew Phil – and he seemed to know almost everyone, no matter where he went! He would strike up conversation even if you (or he!) had dialed the wrong number. Those close knew him to be full of love, music, laughter, interest, and conviction; chiefly his four children who were his source of greatest pride. Phil was born September 26th, 1939, and born-again May 8th, 1973. Phil was a lifetime resident of Hess Lake in Newaygo, where he passed in his sleep at 80 years old. His family expectantly longs for their reunion in glory with Jesus.

Phil is survived by his four children, Gina M. Bevelacqua, Philip J. Bevelacqua, Jaime S. Bevelacqua, and Joseph A. (Erikiah) Bevelacqua; his grandchildren, Justin and Nicky Hills - Travis Bevelacqua - Isabella and Sophia Yousif - Aurelio, Salvatore, Filippo, and Vera Bevelacqua; as well as Susan VanBelzen, and Carole Corrigan. He was preceded in death by his grandsons Teri Hills and Michael Hagen; his parents, Aurelio and Anna; and his sisters, June and Juanita.

Family and friends are encouraged to join together for Visitation (10:00am - 12:00n), a Celebration of Life Service (12:30pm), and a dessert reception on Monday, July 13th, 2020 at Resonate Church in Newaygo. His son, Pastor Joe Bevelacqua, Officiating. Private burial will take place later at the Newaygo Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Fields-McKinley for relay to the Shriners Hospital for Children, or the Michael J. Hagen Scholarship. Please share your memories of Phil with his family online at fieldsmckinley.com.
