Obituary for Millard E. Knapp

Mr. Millard E. Knapp, age 86 of Grant, Michigan, formerly of Cedar Springs, Michigan, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020.

He was born to Millard Elijah and Grace Evelyn (Moshier) Knapp on July 1, 1934, at home in Benton Harbor, MI. Millard was born the second of four children. He was a 1952 graduate of Benton Harbor High School and attended Anderson College, now Anderson University, in Anderson, Indiana from 1952-1956, furthering his call into Pastoral Ministry. He married his college sweetheart, Mary Irene Kindig on August 16, 1953 and she preceded him in death on October 5, 2011. Their marriage was blessed with three children, a daughter, Linda Sue and two sons, Ronald Eugene and David Wayne. Millard entered the Pastoral Ministry in March of 1959 as the Pastor of First Church of God, Cedar Springs, MI. Over the following 36 years, he pastored nine congregations, in seven states. Millard received his ordination in the Church of God, Anderson, IN in November 1960. As a bi-vocational pastor, he also worked as a building mechanical designer/engineer. As part of engineering he was also a member of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers) and ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers).

Millard is survived by his daughter Linda Sue Cade; two sons Ronald Eugene (Beth) Knapp and David Wayne (Jacquelyn) Knapp; five grandchildren, Susan Marie (James) Nelson, Sandra Lynn (Ian) Richter, Joshua Kenneth Cade, Anna Marie Lois (Temitope) Ogunmola, Joel David Knapp; nine great grandchildren, Chloe Dane Nelson, Aurora Tate Nelson, Esther Marley Nelson, Kiah Mary Richter, Elle Jane Richter, Ezra Craig Richter, Omolara Rose Ogunmola, Omolola Lois Ogunmola; one sister Sadye (Robert) Pletz. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward Lindley and one sister, Barbara Ann Merrill.

The funeral service for Mr. Knapp will be celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the Faith United Church of God, 3290 Walker Ave, Grand Rapids, MI with Pastor Emily Clark officiating.

A graveside service and interment will be made in Hoover Cemetery, Athens, Indiana.

Visitation will be Monday, August 24 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Fields-McKinley Funeral Home- Grant and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Church of God, the Grant Wesleyan Church, 688 W. 112th St., Grant, MI 49327 or to Gideons International, 234 Central Ave., Holland, MI 49423.
