Obituary for David L. Evans

On July 23, 2020 David Evans, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, died at
the age of 81. After an eight year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, he has joined many loved
ones that have gone on before.
David was preceded in death by his three sisters: Jackie Galovich, Betty Summerville,
and Marcelle Wentworth, as well as many brothers and sisters in-law. He is survived by his wife
Virginia of 59 years, his four children, Phil (Christi) Evans, Dawna (Mike) Feldpausch, Laura
(Kevin) Martin, and Paul Evans. He made a loving, lasting impact on his 13 grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as everyone who met him.
Born in Muskegon, MI on July 21, 1939 to Mamie Golliver and Raymond (Fredrick)
Evans, he grew up in Grant, MI, and was raised by his grandmother, and later his aunt, after his
mother’s death. Years later, David would speak of how much he cherished the church families
that picked him up for services, which played part in molding him into a man of faith.
He was a proud member of the 101st airborne, and was insurmountably proud of his son
(Phil) and grandson (Mason) for following in his calling to serve their country. Subsequent to an
honorable discharge, David married and went into tool and die at General Motors while raising
his expanding family. After 40 years in the workforce, he retired to the golf course, rarely without
a grandchild attached to his bag-literally, he gave them “pony rides” across the back nine.
David’s boisterous laugh, quick wit, and deep love for people will be remembered and
cherished by everyone who met him. Those wishing to join his family in celebrating his life are
invited to attend his visitation on July 28, 2-4 or 6-8, and July 29, 10-11. The funeral service is
on July 29 at 11 with a luncheon to follow. All services are to be held at Grant Wesleyan Church
Ministry Center (688 W 112th St. Grant, MI). To ensure social distancing, bring your own chair
to the funeral and luncheon as it will be held outdoors.
